• The 86th All India Presiding Officers' Conference (AIPOC) held at Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Bhavan, Lucknow (19-21 Jan 2026) saw Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla call for setting standards in functioning of legislative institutions.
• AIPOC is the apex forum of Presiding Officers (Speakers/Chairpersons) of Indian Parliament and State Legislatures; topic touches parliamentary procedure, federalism, and legislative accountability — core GS-II terrain.
• Conference proposed a National Legislative Index and adopted a resolution for minimum 30 sittings/year in State Legislatures.
