PROMOTION OF CLASSICAL LANGUAGES
- Classical Language is a status conferred by the Government of India (Ministry of Culture) on languages meeting criteria of high antiquity, literary heritage, and originality, entitling them to special promotional schemes.
- As of 2026, 11 languages hold Classical Language status; the most recent five (Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, Bangla) were added on 04.10.2024.
