Strengthening of MSCS Act

• Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) (Amendment) Act, 2023 overhauls the parent MSCS Act, 2002 to bolster governance, transparency and electoral integrity in cooperatives operating across more than one state.
• Administered by the newly-created Ministry of Cooperation (carved out July 2021); operationalises portions of the 97th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2011 still valid for MSCS.
• Examinable for both Prelims (institutions, dates, sections) and Mains GS-II (federalism, governance, statutory bodies).
