INTERLINKING OF RIVERS AND MAJOR IRRIGATION PROJECTS
- Interlinking of Rivers (ILR) is a national programme to transfer water from "surplus" basins to "deficit" basins via storage dams and link canals, under the National Perspective Plan (NPP), 1980.
- Implemented by the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR.
- Examinable for GS-I (geography), GS-II (centre–state, inter-state water disputes) and GS-III (agriculture, environment, infrastructure).
