PROVISIONS UNDER THE AMASR ACT
- The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (AMASR Act) is the principal statute under which the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protects monuments and sites of national importance.
- It prescribes a uniform 100 m Prohibited Area and a further 200 m Regulated Area around every protected monument/site under Sections 20A and 20B; Section 20E empowers framing of Heritage Bye-laws.
