Vessel Monitoring System

• VCSS is an ISRO-developed satellite-based two-way communication and monitoring system for marine fishing vessels, rolled out nationally under PMMSY by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying.
• Aimed at sea-safety, IMBL geo-fencing, cyclone alerts and No-Fishing-Zone warnings, the project links fisheries policy with India's space-based services and maritime security architecture.
• Relevant for UPSC across GS-III (Science & Tech, Internal Security, Fisheries/Economy) and GS-II (Welfare schemes).
