• PMBJP (Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana) is a Government of India scheme to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices through dedicated outlets called Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs).
• Run by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, with implementing arm PMBI (Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India).
• Jan Aushadhi Diwas is observed annually on 7 March; 2026 marks the 8th edition.
• Critical for GS-II (health, welfare schemes) and GS-III (pharma sector, generics).
