SPECIAL IRRIGATION SUPPORT TO DROUGHT-PRONE AREAS

• PMKSY-AIBP carves out a preferential funding and eligibility regime to fast-track Major/Medium Irrigation (MMI) and Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) projects whose command areas fall in drought-prone regions.
• Out of 99 prioritised MMI projects under AIBP, 59 (≈60%) serve drought-prone tracts, including 7 in Andhra Pradesh.
• Examinable for GS-III (agriculture/irrigation), GS-II (centrally sponsored schemes, federalism) and prelims (scheme architecture, funding ratios).
