NHAI Releases First Annual Report on National Highways – Green Cover Index (NH-GCI) for 2025-26

• NH-GCI is the first-of-its-kind annual, satellite-derived quantitative assessment of green cover within the Right of Way (RoW) of India's National Highways, released by NHAI on 9 March 2026.
• Prepared jointly with NRSC (National Remote Sensing Centre), ISRO; uses chlorophyll content captured via high-resolution satellite sensors at 1-km granularity along both sides of the carriageway.
• Relevant for UPSC as a convergence of infrastructure (MoRTH), space technology (ISRO), and environmental monitoring — fits GS-III (Infra, Environment, S&T).
