Indian Railways Renews 54,600 km of Tracks During 2014–26 to Ensure Safe Train Operations

• Indian Railways (IR) renewed ~54,600 km of track during 2014 – Feb 2026 under a continuous safety-driven programme based on age, traffic and condition criteria.
• Network with sectional speed ≥110 kmph rose from 40% (2014) to >80% (2026); share at ≥130 kmph jumped 3.5-fold from 6.3% to 22.4%.
• Relevant for GS-III (Infrastructure, Internal Security – critical infrastructure) and Prelims (schemes, agencies, technology).
