APEDA Facilitates First Export of GI-Tagged Joha Rice from Assam to the United Kingdom and Italy

• APEDA (Ministry of Commerce & Industry) facilitated the first export of 25 MT of GI-tagged Joha rice from Assam to the United Kingdom and Italy, dispatched 12 March 2026.
• Joha is an indigenous aromatic short-grain rice of Assam, GI-tagged in 2017, now penetrating European premium markets.
• For UPSC: intersects GI regime (TRIPS/WTO), APEDA mandate, North-East agri-export push, One District One Product (ODOP) logic.
