Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is in process of revising base year of Index of Industrial Production from 2011-12 to 2022-23

• MoSPI is revising the base year of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) from 2011-12 to 2022-23, alongside parallel revisions of GDP and CPI base years.
• Exercise updates methodology, item basket, weights, data sources, and factory list, and introduces a chain-linked index alongside the existing fixed-base index.
• UPSC-relevant because IIP is a lead indicator of industrial growth, feeds into GDP estimation, and reflects India's transition to internationally accepted statistical standards.
