Availability of generic medicines under PMBJKs

• Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is a Department of Pharmaceuticals scheme that retails quality generic medicines at 50%-80% cheaper than branded equivalents through Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs).
• Product basket: 2,110 medicines + 315 surgicals/consumables/devices across all major therapeutic groups (cardio, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-infectives, anti-allergic, GI, nutraceuticals).
• Implementing agency: Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) — an autonomous society under Dept of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.
• Relevance: GS-II (health, vulnerable sections), GS-III (pharma sector, IPR/generics).
