No Increase in Urea Prices; Reduction in Bag Size Aimed at Promoting Balanced Fertilizer Use
- Government of India has clarified no hike in urea MRP; the bag size has been reduced from 50 kg → 45 kg (and in some cases 40 kg) to curb over-application and promote balanced fertilizer use.
- Implemented by the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, the move dovetails with PM-PRANAM and the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) policy for soil-health-driven agriculture.
- Examinable for Prelims (schemes, MRP figures, coatings) and Mains GS-III (agriculture, subsidies, soil health).
