BUDGETARY PROVISIONS FOR WATER SECURITY

• Water security in India is delivered through a basket of Centrally Sponsored / Central Sector Schemes housed under the Ministry of Jal Shakti (formed 2019), the apex of which is Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal for rural drinking water.
• Budgetary support flows via two Demands for Grants — Demand No. 62 (DoWR, RD&GR) and Demand No. 63 (Dept. of Drinking Water & Sanitation).
• Significant for GS-II (welfare schemes) and GS-III (infrastructure, agriculture, environment); high MCQ density on outlays, coverage and scheme architecture.
