• Balendra ("Balen") Shah, a 35-year-old rapper-turned-engineer and former Mayor of Kathmandu, was sworn in as Prime Minister of Nepal in March 2026 after his Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) won a landslide in the early general election.
• PM Narendra Modi congratulated him via X and an official message routed through PIB / MEA, signalling India's "Neighbourhood First" continuity.
• Critical for UPSC because the event re-opens questions on India–Nepal bilateral architecture, the 1950 Treaty, Kalapani–Lipulekh–Limpiyadhura boundary dispute, and Nepal's hedging between India and China.
