Government notifies Two Key Institutions as Repositories under Biological Diversity Act, 2002

• Central Government, via NBA, has designated two new institutions as national repositories of biological resources under Section 39 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
• Repositories provide safe custody of voucher specimens, microbial cultures and biological materials for taxonomy, research and ABS (Access-Benefit Sharing) compliance.
• For UPSC: tests knowledge of the BDA 2002 architecture (NBA-SBB-BMC), Section 39, and India's obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), 1992 and the Nagoya Protocol.
