Empowering Lives: NAMASTE Scheme Delivers Tangible Change for Sanitation Workers

• NAMASTE = National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem, a Central Sector Scheme aimed at zero fatalities in sewer/septic-tank cleaning and dignity for sanitation workers.
• Joint initiative of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE) and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), implemented by NSKFDC.
• Replaces/subsumes the older Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) from FY 2023-24.
• Touches GS-II (vulnerable sections, welfare schemes) and GS-I (urbanisation, social issues).
