Small Hydro Power Development Scheme

• Small Hydro Power (SHP) = hydro projects of installed capacity up to 25 MW, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
• Union Cabinet approved a fresh SHP Development Scheme for FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31 with an outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore, targeting addition of ~1,500 MW.
• Aspirant relevance: classic GS-III hook on renewable energy mix, North-East development, decentralised grid resilience, and clean-energy financing.
