ECI Introduces QR-Based ID System to Strengthen Security at Counting Centres

• QR code–based Photo Identity Card module rolled out on ECINET by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to lock down access to counting centres.
• Operationalised for the first time on 4 May 2026 during counting for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Puducherry and bye-elections in 7 ACs across 5 States.
• Significant for UPSC as it intersects electoral integrity, e-governance (ECINET), Article 324 powers, and the ECI's recent 30+ reform initiatives.
