• Cell Broadcast System (CBS) is an indigenous mobile-based emergency alert platform that pushes geo-targeted, multilingual disaster warnings to all handsets in a defined area in near real-time.
• Developed by C-DOT under DoT (Ministry of Communications) with NDMA and MHA; complements the existing SMS-based SACHET system.
• UPSC relevance: intersection of GS-III (Disaster Management + Sci-Tech) and GS-II (Governance — DM Act 2005 architecture).
