DELIVERY OF PROJECT 17A INDIGENOUS ADVANCED STEALTH FRIGATE ‘MAHENDRAGIRI’

• Mahendragiri (Yard 12654) is the 6th Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate delivered to the Indian Navy, handed over by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDSL), Mumbai on 30 Apr 2026.
• It is the 4th P17A ship built at MDSL (the other three of the 7-ship programme are at GRSE, Kolkata).
• A flagship case of Aatmanirbharta in warship building — 75% indigenous content, 200+ MSMEs, ~14,000 direct + indirect jobs.
• Relevant for UPSC GS-III (defence indigenisation, internal security, science & tech) and Prelims (ship classes, shipyards, propulsion).
