Strengthening Accessibility: BIS publishes six New Standards for Priority Assistive Products
- Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has notified six new Indian Standards for priority assistive products under the NLEAP framework of ICMR.
- Standards cover mobility aids (crutches, walking sticks, tripod sticks), structural aids (portable ramps) and accessible-design standards (tactile guide maps, Braille on signage).
- Relevant for UPSC under disability rights, social-justice schemes, standardisation architecture, and accessibility mandates of Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan and RPwD Act, 2016.
