Houselisting Operations under Census 2027 begins in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

• Census 2027 is the 16th Indian Census and 8th since Independence, and India's first fully digital census; conducted under the Census Act, 1948 by the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India (RGCCI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
• Conducted in two phases: Phase I — Houselisting & Housing Census (HLO) in 2026; Phase II — Population Enumeration (PE) in Feb 2027, which will also include caste enumeration for the first time since 1931.
• On 1 May 2026, HLO field operations began in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, while Self-Enumeration commenced in MCD Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Jharkhand.
