Cabinet approves Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects with a financial outlay of Rs.37,500 crore

• Union Cabinet-approved incentive scheme with a financial outlay of Rs.37,500 crore to promote surface coal/lignite gasification and production of syngas/downstream products.
• Targets gasification of ~75 Million Tonnes (MT) of coal/lignite, contributing to the national 100 MT coal gasification target by 2030.
• Strategic relevance: reduces import dependence on LNG (>50%), urea (~20%), ammonia (~100%), methanol (~80–90%) — a core energy-security & Atmanirbhar Bharat lever.
