BRICS SENIOR OFFICIALS’ MEETING ON STRENGTHENING ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING IN MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION

• A Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of BRICS legal authorities held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 19–20 May 2026 under India's BRICS 2026 Chairship, to deepen cooperation on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
• Convened by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice; produced a consensus draft Joint Declaration later adopted by Justice Ministers on 21–22 May 2026.
• Significant for UPSC as it intersects GS-II (international groupings, India's diplomacy) and GS-III (ease of doing business, judicial reform via ADR).
