Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh Joins 150-Year Celebrations of IACS, Birthplace of Raman Effect and India’s First Nobel Prize in Science
- Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, marks its 150th year in 2026; it is the first research institution in Asia established by Indians for the cultivation of modern science through original research.
- Birthplace of the Raman Effect (1928), the discovery that fetched India its first Nobel Prize in science (Physics, 1930) to Sir C.V. Raman.
- Currently an autonomous institute under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and a Deemed-to-be University.
