Government Notifies Two New SEZs in Puducherry Following Approval by Board of Approval

• Two new SEZs notified by the Centre in the Union Territory of Puducherry, cleared by the SEZ Board of Approval (BoA) in its 137th meeting on 27.02.2026 and notified on 29 May 2026.
• One is an IT/ITES SEZ to be developed by Oulgaret Municipality at Thattanchavady village, Oulgaret Taluk — the first SEZ in India to be developed by an Urban Local Body (Municipality).
• Significant for UPSC because it links SEZ Act, 2005, single-window BoA mechanism, UT governance, and 74th Constitutional Amendment (ULB as economic developer).
