Special Intensive Revision – Phase III

• SIR = a door-to-door, intensive revision of Electoral Rolls by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure "no eligible citizen is left out, no ineligible person is included."
• Phase III ordered on 14 May 2026 for 16 States + 3 UTs, covering the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, J&K and Ladakh (deferred due to Census Phase-II overlap and winter).
• Largest such exercise in scale: 3.94 lakh BLOs, 3.42 lakh BLAs, 36.73 crore electors.
• High UPSC value: tests Polity (Art. 324), RP Act 1950, federal cooperation, electoral integrity, and current affairs.
