GeM Strengthens Digital, Transparent and Inclusive Public Procurement in India’s Governance Ecosystem

• Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is India's end-to-end online platform for public procurement of goods and services by Central/State Ministries, Departments, PSUs and autonomous bodies, launched 9 August 2016.
• Under Ministry of Commerce & Industry; procurement through GeM is mandated by Rule 149 of GFR 2017.
• UPSC relevance: a flagship digital governance + MSME inclusion + transparency case study cutting across GS-II (governance) and GS-III (economy, MSME).
