Historic Breakthrough Achieved at Zojila Tunnel Project; Shri Nitin Gadkari Highlights Transformational Connectivity Initiatives Across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh
- Zojila Tunnel is a ~13–14 km bi-directional road tunnel under the Zojila Pass on NH-1 (Srinagar–Leh), intended to provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir Valley and Ladakh.
- On 9 June 2026, Union MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari witnessed the historic breakthrough of the main tunnel at the eastern portal at Minamarg, Kargil district.
- It will become India's longest road tunnel and Asia's longest bi-directional tunnel on completion, with strategic value for troop/logistics movement to Ladakh and LAC sectors.
