Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announces Launch of Drone-Based Mail Transmission Service by Department of Posts in Himachal Pradesh

• Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications, launched drone-based transmission of mail and parcels between Mandi Head Post Office and Rehardhar Branch Post Office in Himachal Pradesh, effective 12 June 2026.
• First operational (not pilot) drone mail route in Himachal Pradesh; flagged as the template for ~150 such routes planned across Himachal Pradesh and Assam.
• Relevant for UPSC under GS-II (governance/service delivery in remote areas) and GS-III (technology — drones, logistics, postal reforms).
