Appointment of Chairperson and Members in the National Statistical Commission

• NSC is India's apex advisory body on official statistics, set up by an executive resolution dated 1 June 2005 (operationalised 12 July 2006) on the recommendation of the Rangarajan Commission.
• The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared a new Chairperson and three Members, refreshing the Commission's leadership.
• Important for UPSC as it sits at the intersection of GS-II (statutory/non-statutory bodies, governance) and GS-III (data, economy, planning).
