India's flagging off of its first indigenous hydrogen fuel-cell train on the Jind–Sonipat section (July 2026) marks a shift toward zero-emission traction on non-electrified routes, advancing Railways' net-zero-by-2030 target and the broader Net-Zero-2070 pledge [1].

Significance for decarbonisation
