A. Ramaswamy Mudaliar
Topic: Framing the Indian Constitution · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 4 "Framing the Constitution"
Meaning
A. Ramaswamy Mudaliar was a member of the Constituent Assembly from Mysore. He took part in the debate on how power should be divided between the Centre and the provinces. Many members called for a strong Centre after Partition. Mudaliar objected to the idea that their side loved the country more. He said that people who questioned a strong Centre were not less patriotic.
Example
In the Assembly's debate on the powers of the state, Mudaliar told members not to assume that those who wanted a strong Centre were better patriots than those who had doubts about it.
Don't confuse with
- K. Santhanam: also defended the provinces, but his main argument was practical. He warned that an overburdened Centre would work badly and that provinces left short of money would revolt.
