Meaning

The Battle of Alaboi was fought in 1669 between the Ahoms and the Mughals. It took place at Alaboi, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra near Guwahati. The Mughal army was led by Ram Singh, a Rajput general whom Aurangzeb had sent into Assam. Ram Singh's army won and killed thousands of Ahom soldiers, about 10,000 by common accounts. The Ahoms did not give up. They regrouped, and two years later they won the decisive battle of the war.

Example

After the defeat at Alaboi in 1669, the Ahom commander Lachit Borphukan rebuilt his forces. In 1671 he defeated Ram Singh's much larger army at the Battle of Saraighat, fought on the Brahmaputra.
