Also called: Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation · Topic: Recent Developments in Indian Politics: Coalitions, Mandal and a New Consensus · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 8 "Recent Developments in Indian Politics"
Meaning
BAMCEF stands for the Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation. Kanshi Ram founded it in 1978. Its members were government employees from these communities. But it was not an ordinary employees' union that bargained over pay or service conditions. Its aim was political power for the bahujan: SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities. It laid the base for Dalit-bahujan party politics.
Example
BAMCEF led to DS-4 and then, in 1984, to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The BSP later won power in Uttar Pradesh.
Don't confuse with
- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP): the BSP is the political party that fights elections. BAMCEF was the earlier employees' organisation it grew out of.
