cVIGIL
Topic: Elections and the Electoral System · NCERT: Class 9, Ch 7 "Elections"
Meaning
cVIGIL is a mobile app that the Election Commission of India launched in 2018. Citizens use it to report breaches of the Model Code of Conduct, the ECI's rules for parties and candidates during elections. A report is a geotagged photo or video, which means it carries the exact location where it was taken. The complaint goes to the nearest field team, and the target is to act within 100 minutes. This makes every voter a watchdog and speeds up enforcement.
Example
During an assembly election campaign, a citizen sees a party distributing cash near a polling area. They upload a geotagged photo on cVIGIL. Officials reach the spot and act within the 100-minute target.
