NGO-Darpan
Topic: Civil Society, Pressure Groups, NGOs and Self-help Groups · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
NGO-Darpan is an online portal run by NITI Aayog. NGOs and voluntary organisations sign up on it and get a unique ID. Many central ministries require this ID before they give a grant. It helps the government keep track of which NGOs receive public money, which supports transparency.
Example
Suppose an NGO running a health programme wants a grant from a central ministry. It must first register on NGO-Darpan and quote its unique ID in the application.
Don't confuse with
- FCRA registration: needed to receive foreign money, and given by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). NGO-Darpan is a NITI Aayog ID for government grants. It is not permission to take foreign funds.
- Registration as a society, trust or Section 8 company: this gives the NGO its legal form. NGO-Darpan is only a portal ID on top of that.
