Tele-Law
Topic: Justice Delivery: Subordinate Courts, Tribunals, Legal Aid and Judicial Reforms · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Tele-Law is a programme started in 2017. It gives people legal advice by video or phone through Common Service Centres (CSCs). CSCs are local digital service points, mostly in villages. The programme helps people get advice early, before a dispute reaches court. It now runs under the DISHA scheme. It matters because many villagers live far from lawyers and courts.
Example
A farmer in a remote village has a land dispute with a neighbour. They visit the nearby Common Service Centre and talk to a lawyer by video call. The lawyer explains their rights and what to do next.
Don't confuse with
- Virtual courts: these are online courts that actually decide cases, such as traffic challans. Tele-Law only gives advice and does not decide anything.
