Fertilizer demand in India is sharply seasonal and spatially uneven, making pre-season planning critical. The Government therefore runs a two-department mechanism — demand assessment by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) and supply-side execution by the Department of Fertilizers (DoF), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers — now increasingly anchored in digital tracking.
Demand assessment and supply planning
- Before every Kharif and Rabi season, DA&FW assesses State-wise, month-wise requirement of urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS in consultation with State Governments [1].
