MoFPI Chintan Shivir Charts Strategic Roadmap for a Competitive, Inclusive and Globally Integrated Food Processing Sector

1. At a Glance

A two-day Chintan Shivir organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) at Udaipur, Rajasthan (Jan 2026) to chart a strategic roadmap for a competitive, inclusive and globally integrated food processing ecosystem [S1][S2].
Reflects a whole-of-government + whole-of-industry consultation model — relevant for GS-III (food processing, agro value chains) and GS-II (cooperative federalism, centre-state coordination) [S1].

MoFPI held the Chintan Shivir on 20 January 2026 at Udaipur under the chairmanship of Union Minister Shri Chirag Paswan to deliberate policy reforms, innovation and value-chain integration [S1][S2].
On the sidelines, the Minister inaugurated a Common Incubation Facility at Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti (KUMS), Udaipur, focused on processing Minor Forest Produce (MFP) [S2].

MoFPI was carved out as a dedicated ministry to drive value addition in agri-produce and curb post-harvest losses.
Flagship interventions evolved as: PMKSY (umbrella scheme, restructured 2016), PLISFPI (notified 2021) and PMFME (launched 2020 under Atmanirbhar Bharat) [S3][S4].
Earlier consultative format: APEDA's Chintan Shivir on agri-export strategy preceded the MoFPI-level Shivir [S1].

Administrative / Federal — single-window clearance (UP), state-specific PMFME leadership (Maharashtra) — illustrates cooperative federalism with 27 States/UTs co-deliberating [S1][S2].

PMKSY confusion: Two schemes share the acronym — Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (MoFPI) vs Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (Jal Shakti/Agriculture).
Outlay mix-up: PMFME = ₹10,000 cr; PLISFPI = ₹10,900 cr (not interchangeable).
