On the date of release, Union Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the Final Estimates 2024-25 and First Advance Estimates 2025-26 of area and production of horticulture crops [S1].
Horticulture output has, since 2012-13, consistently exceeded foodgrain production, and this release re-confirms the trend with record growth in fruits and vegetables [S1].

Area & production estimates for horticulture are compiled by the Horticulture Statistics Division, DA&FW based on data from State Horticulture Departments, supplemented by remote-sensing-aided CHAMAN / HortNet inputs [S1].
Release cycle: 1st, 2nd, 3rd Advance Estimates and a Final Estimate for each crop year — same framework as foodgrain estimates by DES [S1].

Economic: Horticulture contributes ~33% of agri-GVA on <18% of cropped area; the rise of 159.94 lakh tonnes in one year directly raises farmer realisations and feeds the food-processing chain [S1].
Social / Nutritional: Higher output of onion, potato, tomato (TOP) and fruits underpins Operation Greens and dietary diversity for nutrition security [S1].
Administrative / Federal: Estimates are a Centre-State collaborative exercise — State Horticulture Departments are primary data providers; Centre consolidates and validates with remote-sensing (CHAMAN) [S1].
Scientific / Technological: Gains attributed to investments in technology, micro-irrigation, value chains, cold chains, processing and markets under MIDH and PMKSY [S1].
