Targets near-100% line capacity utilisation corridors carrying mixed passenger + freight traffic — Delhi-Mumbai, Howrah-Chennai, etc.
Successive CCEA approvals since 2024 have repeatedly extended 3rd/4th line capacity along Golden Quadrilateral / Diagonal corridors.

Environmental — 185 crore kg CO₂ savings = climate co-benefit toward India's NDC; substitution of diesel road haulage by electrified rail [S2].
Strategic / Energy Security — Oil import substitution of 37 crore litres reduces fuel-import bill, aligning with energy-security objectives [S2].
Administrative / Federal — Centrally sponsored capex with state cooperation on land/forest clearances; integration via GatiShakti portal [S2].
Social — Improves connectivity to pilgrimage/tourism circuits (e.g., Mahakaleshwar, Ranthambore) and underserved districts of UP and Rayalaseema [S2].
