Indira Point
Also called: Pygmalion Point, Parsons Point · Topic: India: Location, Size, Extent and Divisions · NCERT: Class 11, Ch 1 "India - Location"
Meaning
Indira Point is the southernmost point of India. It lies at the southern tip of Great Nicobar Island, at about 6°45'N. It is part of India's territory but not of the mainland. Older names for it are Pygmalion Point and Parsons Point. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami partly drowned it. The point matters because it sits close to the busy sea lanes near Southeast Asia.
Example
From Indira Point, Indonesia's island of Sumatra is only about 150 km away, across the Six Degree Channel. The Great Nicobar development project is being planned near this point.
Don't confuse with

- Indira Col: this is India's northernmost point, in the Siachen area, as claimed by India.
