Mangaluru-Kanpur line
Topic: Mineral Resources of India: Distribution and Conservation · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 5 "Mineral and Energy Resources"
Meaning
The Mangaluru-Kanpur line is an imaginary line drawn from Mangaluru on the west coast to Kanpur in the Ganga plains. Most of India's major mineral resources lie east of it, in the old crystalline rocks of the peninsular plateau. It is a simple way to remember the uneven spread of India's minerals.
Example
Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh lie east of this line. They hold large deposits of iron ore, coal, manganese and bauxite, for example the Bailadila iron ore in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.
