Also called: Lifestyle for Environment · Topic: Natural Resources: Classification, Planning and Sustainable Use · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) is a global movement started by India. It was launched on 20 October 2022 at Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Gujarat, with the UN Secretary-General present. It asks each person to make small, mindful changes in daily life, such as saving energy and water and avoiding single-use plastic. The idea is that millions of small choices add up to a big cut in resource use.
Example
A family in Pune that switches off lights when not in use, fixes leaking taps and carries a cloth bag instead of a plastic one is following Mission LiFE.
Don't confuse with
- Extended producer responsibility (EPR) rules (2022): these legally require companies to collect and recycle their plastic, e-waste and battery waste. Mission LiFE is a voluntary call to individuals to change how they live.
