Khazain-ul-Futuh
Also called: Tarikh-i-Alai · Topic: Turkic Invasions and the Delhi Sultanate · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Khazain-ul-Futuh means "Treasures of Victories". It is a book in Persian prose (not poetry) by the court poet Amir Khusrau, and it is also called Tarikh-i-Alai. It describes the reign and conquests of Alauddin Khalji in the early 14th century. Khusrau wrote at the time of these events, so the book is a key source on Alauddin's wars. It also covers Malik Kafur's campaigns in the Deccan and the far south.
Example
Khusrau describes Malik Kafur's march south in c. 1310–11. It covers attacks on the Kakatiyas of Warangal, the Hoysala kingdom and the Pandya lands around Madurai.
Don't confuse with
- Nuh Sipihr: this is also by Amir Khusrau, but it is a poem written for Mubarak Shah Khalji, and it praises India.
- Tarikh-i-Firuz Shahi: this history is by Ziauddin Barani, not Khusrau.
