The Vedaranyam salt march was the Tamil region's version of the 1930 Salt Satyagraha. It was led by C. Rajagopalachari. In April 1930, he and a group of volunteers walked from Tiruchirappalli to Vedaranyam on the coast of Tamil Nadu and broke the salt law there. It showed that the Civil Disobedience Movement had spread far beyond Gujarat.
