Meaning
The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) was created by the Armed Forces Tribunal Act 2007 and began work in 2009. It decides service disputes of members of the army, navy and air force. It also hears appeals against court-martial verdicts, which are decisions of military courts that try service members. Before the AFT, soldiers had no specialised forum for these matters.
Example
An air force officer who is dismissed after a court-martial can appeal to the AFT against the verdict.
